The Winnipeg Metropolitan Region (WMR) is committed to shaping a stronger, more connected future for the region and the residents, businesses, and communities that call it home. Over the past year, the environment surrounding regional planning in Manitoba has shifted. Changes in public perception, government, and the evolving needs of municipalities have prompted us to rethink our approach to regional planning in Manitoba’s capital region.
We are now laying the groundwork for a new regional plan that reflects today’s realities and looks ahead to the future. As part of this work, we will be sharing clear, accessible resources to help people follow the process and stay informed as the plan develops.
Regional planning is about working together across municipalities to help shape the future and helps us plan how to grow, where to build, and how to use land, infrastructure, and services in a coordinated way shaped by local context and priorities. A coordinated approach helps municipalities and their neighbours plan major projects together, share costs, and access provincial and federal funding that supports local priorities. When municipalities coordinate their efforts and present shared priorities, it strengthens their case for funding and investment by showing our region is aligned, prepared, and planning with purpose.
